Artistic Statement

I strive to create work that is both meaningful and appealing to the eye. I want to be able to convey a strong message through my art, while still creating something that is visually interesting. I make sure that the colors I choose for a piece highlight not just the message, but also the overall structure or form of it.

My process of making my pieces is very experimental. The orginal ideas tend to start out very general and, overtime, they become more specific. The message of my art can change during the building process, as I am able to think about it in more depth and actually see the piece in front of me. I enjoy when things do not go as I initially planned because it gives me a chance to problem solve, and discover new aspects that I can add to my pieces.

My current work usually revolves around the theme of life and death or the aging process. Some pieces are sentimental and provide more comfort about the thought of death. Others fed on the fear of death to create something more disturbing. However, my favorite pieces are the ones that combine these two feelings together. They contrast the fragileness and beauty of life with the unappealing aspects of death or aging, but also create a harmony between the two that causes people to think harder about the piece than their initial reaction.
